Fashion Disaster: Jennifer Hudson

With being one of Black Hollywood’s most promising stars, Jennifer Hudson’s style should be on point and it never is. Her outfits seem thoughtless and her lack of fashion is evident by all of her ensembles. Jennifer attempts to be fashion forward and unique by wearing metallics, revealing her under garments, and always showcasing her voluptuous buss. Even her amazing pairing with Vogue luminary Andre Leon Tally did not help her style in the way that it should have. Her style is just uninspiring and she tries to hard. Consequently her looks are always fashion misses which make her a fashion disaster.

Definition of Fly: Tracee Ellis Ross

Her talent, style, charm, and poise are to be noted. Ms.Ross, yes, the daughter of the living legend- Diana Ross is a style icon in her own right in my eyes. She has an impeccable sense of fashion and it is evident in all of her ensembles. She is different, subtle yet bold, and classic. Her style is ultra feminine
,flowing lines, puffed shoulders, and high heels. My favorite aspect of Tracee's style, is how she combines colors and exudes femininity. She puts together palettes that are as innovative as they are stylish. She truly is the definition of fly.

Yves Saint Laurent Dies: Age 71

PARIS (AP) — Yves Saint Laurent, one of the most influential and enduring designers of the 20th century, empowered women by reinventing pants as a sleek, elegant staple of the female wardrobe.

Saint Laurent, 71, died Sunday night at his Paris home after a yearlong battle with brain cancer, said Pierre Berge, Saint Laurent's close friend and business partner for four decades.

"Chanel gave women freedom," and Saint Laurent "gave them power," Berge said on France-Info radio. He called Saint Laurent a "true creator" who went beyond the aesthetic to make a social statement.

"In this sense, he was a libertarian, an anarchist and he threw bombs at the legs of society," he said. "That's how he transformed society and that's how he transformed women."

The Gucci Group, which acquired the Yves Saint Laurent fashion house in 1999, said the designer's death "leaves a great emptiness but also a sublime inheritance."

"This genius of creation shattered the codes to create French elegance which today makes Paris a grand capital of fashion," Gucci said.

Berge, speaking Monday on the France-2 TV station, stressed Saint Laurent's "profound love" for women. He used fashion to "serve women" and not "use them," said Berge, who collaborated with the designer for four decades and was his former romantic partner.

In his own words, Saint Laurent once said he felt "fashion was not only supposed to make women beautiful, but to reassure them, to give them confidence, to allow them to come to terms with themselves."

Saint Laurent widely was considered the last of a generation that included Christian Dior and Coco Chanel and made Paris the fashion capital of the world, with the Rive Gauche, or Left Bank, as its elegant headquarters.

The designer raised the stature of fashion while making it more accessible, it is widely agreed.

President Nicolas Sarkozy praised Saint Laurent for "putting his mark on a half-century of creation, in luxury as well as ready-to-wear." First lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, who graced Saint Laurent's runway during her modeling career, said she had a "heavy heart" on learning of his death.

"He was an exceptional artist and human being," she said. "He made not only beauty, but also women's strength sublime."

Fashion Staple- All Black

From the legendary look that was Jackie O’Nassis Kennedy or to the iconic black dress adorned by Audrey Hepborn, or to the classic black suit worn by Hollywood’s leading men, all black has always been a fashion staple. It is an effortless feasible look that garners instantaneous attention. When one is in doubt as to what to wear, all black is a permanent option. All black is one of the most versatile fashion looks. It can be worn to school, work, a night out, etc. All black is appropriate for all occasions and it also looks classy, elegant, and professional. It makes a bold yet subtle fashion statement all at once. All black is demure, confident, contemporary, dark, chic, and most notably it is such an easily attainable look. Nearly every clothing retailer carries black merchandise and my advice is to go purchase an all black ensemble. You surely will not regret you’re this choice.

I'm Mad

I'm mad that you love me
I'm mad that I love you
I'm mad, not because of the love
but what the love makes me do
It makes me controlled, all powered by you

I'm manipulated
I'm vulnerable
I'm weak
I'm not me

Loving you makes me hate me
Loving you makes me feel like I don't know me
Loving you is destroying me

Is it because I got so lost in you that I lost me

I'm searching for myself, your not helping me to be....

I'm longing to look in the mirror and have acceptance for who I be

So really I'm not mad at you cause you love me, and I love you. Really truly

I'm mad cause I don't love me.

Fashion News: Gap Has a New Head Designer

Gap- The Iconic American fashion retailer has gone down in sales. This is major because the Gap is perhaps the most important fashion retailer in the country. With the switch from the classic look of the 90’s to the ultra trendy look of the new millennium the gap has not been as relevant as it was once was. From 1989 to 2001, the Gap triumphed over the competition largely due to their broad appeal to all Americans and their affordable prices. They also have great sales. However with stores such as H&M, Forever21, Urban Outfitters, and Wet Seal, their appeal was much more fashion forward than the Gaps. Consequently these stores garnered many of the Gap’s loyal consumers and the Gap brand suffered.

To augment what should be the best American Fashion can offer, the gap has enlisted Patrick Robinson as the new head of Design. Robinson has been employed by many fashion houses in New York, Milan, and Paris (Anne Klein, Giorgio Armani, Perry Ellis, Paco Rabbane). He has also had his own line. Vogue has stated “ Robinson’s office s as spacious as befits the magnitude of what is probably the most socially significant fashion job in the United States”.

He has an extremely difficult task ahead of him. Personally I only go the Gap to see if they have underwear on sale and that is it unfortunately. Denim is the most important item for the Gap to sale and no premium denim is the denim to have. Jeans, which cost $150.00 and up as opposed to Gap jeans costing $24.99. What does Robinson have to say about the competition? “ We’re different, we’re truly about classics and reinventing, say the puffer in gray flannel or that flared chino-classic American things I love. Its not disposable fashion”. That was such a jab at H&M.

Well we can compare and contrast all day, but right now H&M is the store to beat. I’ll buy from there before I but from the Gap on any day. Maybe having a bug name designer, as the head of design will bring the Gap back to their iconic status and make the store relevant to today’s generation.
